Before the first lesson (for non-English tutors)

How to use the Rihisi platform to communicate with the student before the first lesson and how to prepare for an awesome first lesson

We suggest going through some technical preparations and getting the settings right.

Rihisi teaching guide - before the first lesson

Trial lessons are your chance to shine and encourage a student to buy more hours with you. Here are some tips to prepare for your first lesson:

  • Go to the “Messages” page and thank your student for making the booking.

  • Get familiar with the Rihisi classroom before your trial by clicking on “Join lesson” at the top of the “My lessons”.

  • Ask your student to briefly clarify their goals and expectations. Ask follow up questions so you can plan a personalized trial lesson.

If you teach French, Spanish, German or Portuguese, encourage your student to take the Rihisi placement test. You may need to send them the link to the test, which you’ll find in a Rihisi notification in your messages with the student.

When they complete the test, you’ll receive an email with their results. If you teach a different language, we recommend using placement tests from credible websites.

Sample Message -

Hi Amy, thanks for booking our first lesson.

I am looking forward to working with you to improve your (insert language) skills. Here is the link for the Placement test. It will take you about 20 minutes and will allow us to prepare a personalized learning plan for you. Although there is a section in the Placement Test that covers your goals, I would still love to know your learning needs and what you are hoping to achieve.

Thanks,
