During the first lesson (for non-English tutors)
Find a recommended first lesson plan to use with your new student
When you enter the Rihisi classroom, you’ll see suggested lesson timings on the agenda. These were created as guidelines – if you’ve created your own plan, you’re welcome to use that.
The agenda includes the following steps:
Welcome your student (0-5 mins)
Make sure you dedicate some time to building rapport and making your student feel comfortable.
Review the placement test (5-15 mins)
Discuss your student’s placement test results. Highlight a couple of areas of improvement and a couple of things they did well.
Goal setting (15-25 mins)
Get more information about your student’s goals and choose the course that’s most relevant for them.
Lesson activity (25-45 mins)
Dedicate some time to teaching your student something new. This should involve planned activities based on your student’s goals or placement test results.
Feedback (45-50 mins)
Give your student some feedback on their performance in the lesson. This is a great time to go over any mistakes you didn’t have time to address during the lesson.
Set homework (50-55 mins)
Set your student some homework, based on the content you covered in the live lesson. The task should be something you prepared properly in advance.
Plan the next lesson (55-60 mins)
Discuss your student’s availability for future lessons. Tell them that if they’d like to continue, they’ll need to buy more hours with you.
