Before the lesson starts: review the agenda
In the classroom, you will see an agenda with a recommended breakdown of timings for your lesson to help you stay on track. The agenda items change depending on whether your student has done homework using Rihisi exercises, or whether a new student has completed their placement test or chosen their course. This makes the agenda an easy way to keep track of your student’s work so you can plan to cover everything you need to during the lesson.
In the agenda, you’ll see specific prompts based on activities your student has done. For example, if your student has completed the placement test, you’ll have a link to open it. If your student hasn’t chosen a course yet, you’ll have a prompt to discuss their goals and choose a course together.
Step 1: Check in with your student and see how they are doing
Relationship-building is a key element in retaining your students. Check in on them and add any relevant information to the private notes section of the ‘Notes’ tool.
Step 2: Review the lesson goals and self-study activities
You will see the selected lesson topic at the top of the agenda. Scroll down in the agenda to find links to open the self-study activities for the lesson topic.
Using the materials and resources is smooth and easy. Your student will see them automatically when you open them. They can answer questions and complete activities, but they won’t be able to move to the next exercise until you’re ready. To show the next activity, and click ‘Go forward’ or choose ‘Mark as complete.’
If you are teaching a trial lesson, we recommend you pick a topic with your student during the lesson. We suggest looking for a topic on goal-setting or motivation. You can change the topic from inside the classroom by clicking the change button. This will take you back to the course and you can choose a new topic to add.
Step 3: Review the self-study activities
You can review or complete self-study activities with your student during the lesson. With the materials open, you can see all of the correct answers, along with your student’s answers. Target vocabulary will be automatically added to the student’s flashcards as they complete the self-study and live lesson. The student will be prompted to confirm that they want to add the target language to their flashcard list after the lesson.
Step 4: Complete the live lesson material
The 20 minute live lesson materials they were created for you to use while conducting your tutoring session. They prompt students to put the topic-based language into practice while communicating with you. Each live lesson consists of 4 slides with images, some text and discussion questions.
Step 5: Review the lesson summary and plan the next lesson
Make sure you’ve shared the target language using the flashcards tool, filled out the lesson summary notes and chosen the topic for your next lesson.
Congratulations for making it to the end of this training guide! You are going to do a brilliant job!
