Your lesson schedule and daylight saving time

Learn how your lesson times can be affected by daylight saving time

What is daylight saving time?

In short, it’s “spring forward or fall back” time! DST is a common practice used in a lot of countries around the world. It aims to make better use of daylight. To know which countries observe DST and what the start and the end dates are, see Daylight Saving Time Around the World 2023

How does it work?

In the Northern Hemisphere, the countries that observe DST set clocks forward 1 hour in the spring, and back by 1 hour in the fall to revert to standard time. In the Southern Hemisphere, the clocks change in the opposite direction – 1 hour back in the spring, and 1 hour forward in the fall. In this way, it gets dark at a later clock time, and people can make better use of natural daylight and save energy.

How can it impact my scheduled lessons?

After DST changes come into effect, the time difference between you and your tutor living in another country might shift. Your Rihisi Calendar automatically takes the time change into account, so you can trust that the lesson times are displayed correctly. If you haven’t received any emails or messages regarding your scheduled lessons (either from Rihisi or from your tutor), your scheduled lessons will take place as planned.

Overlapping lessons

At the same time, we recommend checking your calendar between October 29 - November 5 to make sure you can attend all scheduled lessons. For more details, go to Daylight Saving Time Around the World 2023

Your tutor might have students from different countries and after the DST changes, their schedules might shift and their lesson time might overlap with yours. If we detect any calendar conflicts, we’ll notify you right away via email. You’ll be able to discuss your schedule changes with your tutor and reschedule your overlapping lessons.
